In his 1969 text "What is an Author?" Michel Foucault wrote that texts really began to have authors when authors became subject to punishment. It's an interesting statement to ponder as becoming an author involves taking ownership of our ideas. It involves accepting the consequences of sharing our thoughts. When we expose our thoughts, we are exposing ourselves to certain risks — especially when we deal with contentious ideas. In this episode, I discuss the topic of taking ownership of our writing and what this means in the twenty-first century.
