Your writing is your house when it comes to establishing your authority and credibility. Just like your house, you need to clean your writing for it to be presentable. Put every word on trial for its life, as Stephen King suggested. Remove the fluff. Keep the words that carry meaning only. Some words are like dust, and they need to be cleaned away. Adjectives and adverbs are often unnecessary. So are “that” and “very.”
